Holistic Vets General Information

TRADITIONAL CHINESE VETERINARY MEDICINE (TCVM) AND FOOD THERAPY TCVM is an ancient approach to health that makes use of unique insights, such as the quality and nature of the pulse and appearance of the tongue, as well as an individual's temperature preferences. Many factors are considered in combination to identify patterns in the body and areas where Qi (energy) ow, Yin, Yang or Blood may be compromised. Where there is imbalance, there is dis-ease. The aim of TCVM is to maintain or restore balance of these four elements to help the body to heal. It makes use of four main branches of therapy to improve energy ow and ultimately health and well-being. These include: 1. Food Therapy: Food plays a major role in supporting health and healing. Certain foods have specic energies and properties which we can make use of for balancing the body and, therefore, therapeutic effects. 2. Acupuncture: Specic energy points in the body are stimulated by various means to activate the body's healing ability and help to restore balance 3. Chinese Herbal Medicine: Formulas containing various combinations of herbs address a variety of health issues, both by tonifying or dispersing the aspects that are decient or excessive 4. Tui-na: a specic form of massage encompassing various techniques that promotes health and well- being, also by tonifying or sedating the tissues and meridians TCVM can be a powerful tool to address many health issues including cancer, allergies, pain, digestive disturbances, endocrine problems like diabetes and cushings disease, organ dysfunction, behavioural/anxiety issues, seizures, paralysis and many more. Often cases that are unresponsive to western medicine can be addressed successfully using TCVM.
