Dr Liza Schneider

BVSc - Veterinarian & Director of Holistic Vets

Growing up in South Africa, Liza loved looking after a diversity of animals and learning about the wonders of nature. Being particularly active on the sports field, she occasionally sustained sporting injuries which an Osteopath would attend to, getting her back into competition much more quickly than the doctor thought possible. This, in addition to her sickly brother being treated successfully with homeopathy, instilled in Liza from an early age that “where there’s a will there’s a way” and by respecting natural principles long term health can be easily sustained.

After qualifying as a vet in 2000 at Ondestepoort, South Africa, Liza immigrated to New Zealand, settling in Auckland for three years. During this time Liza worked primarily in small animal veterinary practice, gaining experience and proficiency in all aspects but especially enjoying surgery and emergency medicine. She also provided veterinary consultancy services to various companies pioneering veterinary hyperbaric medicine and equine interval hypoxic training in New Zealand. Throughout her career she has sought and applied complementary and natural therapies which are easy to learn, practical to apply and highly effective at assisting her patients to heal.

In 2003, Liza moved to Tauranga and established Holistic Vets which integrates all the advantages of conventional veterinary medicine with natural and complementary therapies. Holistic Vets has grown exponentially over the years and during 2008 was the proud winner of two business awards recognizing the exceptional contribution which it makes to the community.

Liza is passionate about “helping animals of all kinds” and has a special interest in wildlife rehabilitation, having established a charitable trust, ARRC (Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre), to fulfill this role in the Bay of Plenty.

Liza is also the author of “You CAN Do It!!!” (A book for people about losing bodyfat, nutrition, exercise and maintaining optimal health) as well as several articles relating to fitness and nutrition and various veterinary topics published in a variety of magazines and newspapers. She is also a regular speaker at seminars conducted for the promotion of the above book as well as education on human nutrition, healthy lifestyle habits, and her work as a vet. Liza has featured regularly on the radio as the Newstalk ZB vet across the Bay of Plenty and has also been on the "Good Morning" television show. She delights in educating, inspiring and entertaining people about sustainable healthcare and the importance of preserving our natural heritage.

Dr. Justin Badenhorst

Hey everyone! I'm Justin. My interest in working with animals began at an early age. Like many younger kids, my vision was to aid animals in any way possible and help to relieve suffering of any kind.

My journey began after leaving school through studying homeopathy at the College of Natural Health and Homeopathy. This gave me a strong natural perspective of alternative treatments. I was left hungering for more as I felt the need to be able to do surgery and combine natural alternatives with current medicinal practices. This lead me to pursue a Batchelor of Veterinary Science.

Having graduated from Massey University in 2014, I sought out a job working with companion animals. Since Tauranga had so much to offer, it was an easy decision to accept a position locally. The beautiful beaches, laid-back lifestyle and family-friendly focus was too much to pass up.

When not at work I can be found spending time out with my wife and 2 kids, bringing my 2 dogs along for a spectacularly fun time! My other interests include free running and weight training based goals. I thoroughly enjoy being part of the amazing team at Holistic vets and being able to deliver comprehensive care to you and your beloved pets!

Dr. Jacqui Snell

Hi, I'm Jacqui, I graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1988 and have practiced as a Companion Animal Veterinarian for 25 years since then. I am currently furthering my studies in Holistic Medicine by studying a Post Graduate Diploma in Western Veterinary Herbal Medicine through the College of Integrative Veterinary Medicine. This has opened doors, to a wealth of information and treatment modalities which I am looking forward to incorporating into practice. I have always been interested in Complementary Therapies and am very excited to be working with the team at Holistic Vets.

My first job was in a very busy Companion Animal Practice in Wellington. I worked there for two years and then travelled over to England where I practiced in London and Surrey.

After returning from overseas my husband and I settled in Hawkes Bay. I started my next job at the Taradale Veterinary Hospital and after three years there, I purchased the practice. I owned this practice for the next 14 years, expanding it to a four veterinarian companion animal practice incorporating a business partner for the last 8 years. My husband and I have also owned and managed a deer, sheep and beef farm for 12 years. We have always had a love of animals and the land.

My husband (Tony), three daughters (Helaina, Caitlin, Madeline), two dogs (Flash, Blaze), three cats (Henry, Kiki, Sapphire) and I moved to the Bay of Plenty from Hawkes Bay 14 months ago. This move has created a great opportunity to be able to work at Holistic Vets. I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

Jody joined the team in December 2015, she is a qualified Vet Nurse and also holds a Diploma in Digital Photography and a Certificate in Video and Electronic Media.

Jody has lived in the Bay of Plenty since she was 5-years-old and loves the lifestyle she has with her husband, Nathan, and two children - Zane and Izzy. Her furry family consists of Ruby (female Dachshund), Ernie (male dachshund), Pip (tabby cat), Nacho (ginger cat), 5 red shavers and cattle.

Jody has always loved animals, but followed her dream of becoming a photographer - a career that kept her busy from 2000, and she still picks up the camera part-time. As Jody grew older she realised that she really wanted to work with animals, so retrained as a Veterinary Nurse at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic in 2015.

Jody knew she wanted to work with the awesome team at Holistic Vets and was over the moon to be offered a position after graduating.

In her spare time she likes to watch her son race moto x, go fishing, walk on the beach, photograph, watch the sunset and spend time with her family.
